In news that will surely not upset anyone, someone has launched an online campaign to convince the surviving members of Nirvana to reunite with Nickelback‘s Chad Kroeger on vocals in place of the late Kurt Cobain.
The campaign’s Facebook page, which features a Photoshopped image of bassist Krist Novoselic, drummer Dave Grohl and touring guitarist Pat Smear alongside a smiling Kroeger, suggests that the newly renamed “Nirvanaback” make their debut at the Nirvana Hair and Beauty Bar in Manchester, England.
Comments on the page range from jokes — “Support comes from Puddle of Mudd, Bush and Silverchair,” one person suggested– to reactions of abject horror. So far, neither Nickelback nor Nirvana has responded to the campaign.
Even if Kroeger was interested in the gig, the remaining members of Nirvana aren’t exactly lacking for other musicians to perform with. In 2012, Novoselic, Grohl and Smear teamed up with Paul McCartney to record a new song called “Cut Me Some Slack.”
Then, when Nirvana was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2014, the trio reunited to play the band’s songs for the first time since Cobain’s death with guest lead singers Lorde, Joan Jett, St. Vincent and Sonic Youth‘s Kim Gordon.
